DOCTOR IN SOCIOLOGY OF KNOWLEDGE (PhD) AND
DEGREE IN CULTURAL HISTORY (Master of Arts, Honours)
Patrícia Soley-Beltran holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of Edinburgh and a degree in Cultural History from the University of Aberdeen. She is the author of two academic books and numerous scientific publications in indexed journals. Very interested in the public understanding of academic research, she has been awarded the Anagrama Essay Prize for ¡Divinas! Models, Power and Lies (Anagrama 2015) and the I María Luz Morales Prize for Journalism for "Política eres tú" (El País Semanal, 2015). As a fiction writer, she has won the 1st Prize 420 Caracters per unes Relacions d'Igualtat of the Catalan Institute for Women and the 1st Prize Puig de Missa XXI Poetry Prize. She worked as a model and actress (1979-1989), presented the innovative music program Pop Stock in its beginnings (TV3, 1983) and the in-depth interview program Terrícoles (Betevé 2016-2017). She regularly publishes in newspapers and magazines, such as El País, La Vanguardia, VEIN and works for the WellBeing Meetings organised by radio station Cadena SER.
She is a member of the Editorial Board of the journal Critical Studies of Fashion and Beauty, a member of the research group in the History of Science (Pompeu Fabra University), member of Coslogia (working group on the body of the Institut Català d'Antropologia-CSIC), Honorary Member of the University of Edinburgh (2008-2001) and member of the Advisory Board of the Nagel Foundation. She has lectured at universities, such as Cambridge, Edinburgh, École des Mines, Aberdeen, Vienna, Barcelona, Pompeu Fabra, amongst others. She has also coordinated courses and given talks at Caixafòrum (Madrid, Barcelona), La Térmica – Málaga, Sa Nostra Foundation, Costume Museum Madrid, Barcelona Design Museum, Espai Francesca Bonnemaison, Casa América and TEDxBarcelonaWomen, among many other prestigious cultural institutions.
